Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 1 hour
Total: 1 hour and 15 minutes

  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 ounces) of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup of whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a small saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it turns golden brown and caramelizes.

  3. Immediately pour the caramelized sugar into a flan mold or individual ramekins, swirling to evenly coat the bottom.

  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  5. Pour the egg mixture over the caramelized sugar in the flan mold or ramekins.

  6. Place the flan mold or ramekins in a large baking dish. Fill the baking dish with hot water halfway up the sides of the flan mold or ramekins.

  7. Carefully transfer the baking dish to the preheated oven and bake for 60 minutes, or until the center of the flan is set but still slightly jiggly.

  8. Remove the flan mold or ramekins from the water bath and let them cool to room temperature.

  9. Once cooled, refrigerate the flan for at least 4 hours or overnight.

  10. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Invert the flan onto a serving plate, allowing the caramel sauce to drizzle over the top.
