How To Make Kay’s Spaghetti and Lasagna Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onions and minced garlic. Cook until onions are translucent.

  2. Add ground beef to the saucepan and cook until browned. Break up the meat with a spatula while cooking.

  3. Stir in tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, and tomato paste. Mix well.

  4. Add dried basil, dried oregano, red pepper flakes (if using), sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.

  5. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

  6. Adjust seasoning if needed.

  7. Serve the sauce over spaghetti or use it for lasagna.
