Ingredients

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz) of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup of whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a small saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat until golden brown, stirring constantly. Pour the caramelized sugar into a shallow round baking dish, spreading it evenly to coat the bottom.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, whole milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. Pour the egg mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.

  5. Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and fill the larger pan with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the smaller dish.

  6. Carefully transfer the pans to the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour or until the flan is set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. Remove the pans from the oven and let the flan cool to room temperature in the water bath.

  8. Once cooled, refrigerate the flan for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow it to fully set.

  9. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the baking dish and invert it onto a serving platter. The caramel sauce will flow over the flan, creating a delicious sauce.
