Rich and creamy custard with a caramel drizzle.

Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 45 minutes
Total: 1 hour

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook sugar until melted and golden brown. Pour into a 9×5 inch loaf pan and swirl to coat bottom of pan.

  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs. Add sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, and salt, and mix until well combined.

  4. Pour the mixture over the caramel in the loaf pan. Place the pan in a larger baking dish and fill halfway with hot water.

  5. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center of the flan.

  6. Let cool, then cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or until completely chilled.

  7. To serve, run a knife along the edges of the pan and invert onto a serving plate, allowing the caramel sauce to drizzle over the flan.
