How To Make Smoked Gouda Bechamel

Bechamel is a French white sauce made with milk and white roux. This delicious Gouda Bechamel recipe is made creamier and thicker with smoked Gouda cheese.

Ingredients

  • 2tbspunsalted butter
  • 2tbspall-purpose flour
  • cupwhole milk
  • ¼cupheavy cream
  • ¼lbgouda cheese,smoked
  • ½tsppaprika,smoked, optional
  • 1pinchnutmeg,freshly grated
  • salt and freshly ground pepper

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter.

  2. Add the flour and whisk over moderately high heat for 30 seconds.

  3. Add the milk and bring to a boil, whisking constantly.

  4. Cook over moderate heat, whisking constantly, for 4 to 5 minutes until thickened.

  5. Add the cream, smoked Gouda, paprika, and nutmeg, and whisk for about 2 minutes just until the cheese is melted.

  6. Season with salt and pepper.

  7. Use right away or cover directly with plastic wrap and refrigerate.
