How To Make Mongolian Tofu Recipe

A flavorful vegetarian version of the classic Mongolian Beef dish, made with crispy tofu and a sweet, spicy sauce.

Ingredients

  • 14 oz. block of extra-firm tofu
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 4 green onions, sliced (white and green parts separated)
  • Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions

  1. Press tofu to remove excess water, then cut into 1-inch cubes and coat in cornstarch.

  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add tofu and cook until crispy and golden brown on all sides.

  3. In a small bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.

  4. Add sauce to skillet with tofu and stir to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes until sauce has thickened and tofu is coated.

  5. Serve over rice or noodles, garnished with sliced green onions.
