  • 2 pounds eye round steak
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper, to taste


  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).

  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large oven-safe pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.

  3. Season the eye round steak with salt and pepper on both sides.

  4. Sear the steak in the hot oil until browned on both sides. Remove from the pot and set aside.

  5. In the same pot, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent.

  6. Add the beef broth, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard to the pot. Stir well to combine.

  7. Return the seared steak to the pot and bring the liquid to a simmer.

  8. Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven.

  9. Braise the steak in the oven for about 2 hours or until it is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

  10. Once cooked, remove the steak from the pot and let it rest for a few minutes.

  11. Slice the steak against the grain and serve with the braising liquid as a sauce.
