This Copycat Panda Express Black Pepper Chicken recipe lets you make your favorite take out dish at home. Next to Orange Chicken, this is my favorite side at my go-to lunch spot. Not only can you tweak the recipe to suit you, you can also save quite a bit of money. This tangy, ginger and black pepper dish is so delicious that you’ll want to eat it every day. Make extra and save the leftovers for lunch!

  • 4 tbsp. soy sauce
  • ½ tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp. chili vinegar
  • 3 tbsp. cornstarch
  • salt , to taste
  • 1 lb. boneless chicken breast, cut into cubes
  • 4 tbsp. oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 5 celery stalks, sliced thickly
  • 2 tbsp. black pepper


To make the chicken marinade:

  1. Combine soy sauce and ginger in a small bowl.

  2. Add ½ tbsp. vinegar, cornstarch and a pinch of salt.

  3. Add the chicken.

  4. Mix well to cover the chicken with marinade. Let sit for 15 minutes

To Cook Chicken:

  1. Heat 2 tbsp. oil in a hot wok
  2. Saute onion and celery for two minutes.

  3. Add the chicken in the wok with the marinade mixture.

  4. Stir in the remaining ingredients: chili vinegar and black pepper.

  5. Add salt to taste.

  6. Serve hot with the sauce formed in the wok, over rice or noodles
