Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 cup long-grain white rice
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
-
Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well and set aside.
-
In a large skillet or saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
-
Add the rice to the skillet and stir to coat it with the butter and onion mixture. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
-
Pour in the broth, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the skillet and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
-
Remove the skillet from the heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and stir in the chopped parsley, if desired.
-
Serve the classic rice pilaf as a delicious side dish with your favorite main course.
