Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 30 minutes
Total: 50 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Lingonberry sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, egg, salt, black pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

  2. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

  3. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook until browned on all sides. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

  4. In the same skillet, sprinkle flour over the melted butter. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.

  5. Slowly pour in beef broth while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue whisking until the gravy thickens.

  6. Stir in heavy cream and return the meatballs to the skillet. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce thickens.

  7. Serve the Swedish meatballs with lingonberry sauce and mashed potatoes or noodles.
