How To Make Walleye Po’ Boy Recipe

This is a classic New Orleans-style sandwich made with crispy fried walleye, coleslaw, and spicy mayo sauce on a French baguette.

Ingredients

  • 4 Walleye fillets, skinless, boneless
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp of Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp of onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp of paprika
  • 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1 cup of panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 4 small French baguettes, sliced in half
  • 1 cup of coleslaw mix
  • 1/4 cup of mayo
  • 1 tbsp of hot sauce
  • 1 tbsp of honey
  • 1/2 tsp of garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat vegetable oil to 350°F.

  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk.

  4. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.

  5. Coat each fillet in the seasoned flour, then dip into the egg mixture, and coat with panko breadcrumbs.

  6. Carefully place each fillet into the hot oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

  7. In a small bowl, mix mayo, hot sauce, honey, and garlic powder to make spicy mayo sauce.

  8. Toast the baguette slices and slather with spicy mayo sauce.

  9. Top with fried walleye fillets and coleslaw mix.

  10. Serve immediately.
