How To Make Herring Baked with Potatoes

A hearty and flavorful dish of baked herring and potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 4 whole herring, gutted and cleaned
  • 4 medium potatoes, scrubbed and sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 lemon, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.

  2. In a bowl, mix the sliced potatoes, onion, garlic, olive oil, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.

  3. Arrange the potato mixture in a single layer in a large baking dish.

  4. Place the herring on top of the potato mixture, stuffing each fish with a few slices of lemon.

  5. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the herring is cooked through.

  6. Serve hot with additional lemon wedges on the side.
