How To Make Herring Chowder Recipe

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. of herring fillets, skin removed and chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 2 celery stalks, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 cups of chicken or vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a dutch oven or pot and sauté onion and garlic until fragrant.

  2. Add in cubed potatoes, sliced carrots, and celery. Cook for 10 minutes until vegetables are slightly tender.

  3. Pour in chicken or vegetable broth, bring to a boil and let it simmer for 20 minutes.

  4. Add in chopped herring fillets and heavy cream. Simmer for another 10 minutes.

  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
