How To Make Anise Scones
These scones have a licorice-like flavor from the anise and are perfect for breakfast or tea time.

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon anise seeds
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions

Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and anise seeds.

Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a small bowl, whisk together egg, buttermilk, and vanilla extract.

Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix until a sticky dough forms.

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently for about 1 minute.

Pat dough into a circle about 1 inch thick and cut into 8 wedges.

Transfer wedges to baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
