- 1 9-inch pie crust
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups milk
- 3 egg yolks, beaten
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Whipped cream, for topping (optional)
Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually stir in milk until smooth.

Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and comes to a boil.

Boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat.

Gradually whisk about 1 cup of the hot mixture into the beaten egg yolks, then pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan.

Cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract until butter is melted.
