How To Make Malasadas

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp instant yeast
  • 2/3 cup warm water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

  2. Make a well in the center and pour in warm water. Mix until a sticky dough forms.

  3. Add eggs and melted butter to the dough. Mix well until smooth and elastic.

  4. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.

  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (180°C).

  6. Using wet hands, scoop a tablespoon of dough and drop it into the hot oil. Repeat with more dough, frying in batches, until golden brown on all sides.

  7. Remove the malasadas from the oil and drain on a paper towel.

  8. Dust the malasadas with powdered sugar while they are still warm.

  9. Serve and enjoy!
