  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Add milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.

  4. Slowly pour in hot water while stirring the batter. The batter will be thin.

  5. Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with batter.

  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.

  7. Remove from the oven and let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
