Chocolate Sugar Plums Recipe

In true Christmas spirit, this chocolate sugar plums recipe will get you in the holiday mood. The version of this recipe doesn’t contain any fruit; it’s a sweet chocolate ball covered in nuts and wafer crumbs for some added crunch.

How To Make Chocolate Sugar Plums

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tsp rum extract (or almond extract)
  • 2 ½ cups vanilla wafers (finely crushed )
  • 1 cup pecans (crushed)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  1. Line cookie sheets or trays with waxed paper.

  2. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave for 25 seconds. Stir and microwave in 10-second intervals as needed, stirring each time until melted.

  3. Mix the water with the rum or almond extract.

  4. In a medium-sized bowl, mix melted chocolate, confectioners' sugar, corn syrup and the flavored water with a wooden spoon.

  5. Stir in wafer crumbs and pecans until blended. Shape by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. If the mixture is too crumbly, add a tiny amount of water.

  6. Roll in granulated sugar and place on cookie sheets to set. Store in an airtight container until ready to eat.
