  • 2 lbs pork shoulder, cut into chunks
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 2 jalapeno peppers, seeded and diced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lime wedges (for serving)
  • Tortillas or rice (optional, for serving)


  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the pork chunks and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the pork from the pot and set aside.

  2. In the same pot, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent.

  3. Add the diced tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, cumin, oregano, and chili powder to the pot. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until the spices are fragrant.

  4. Return the browned pork to the pot and add the chicken broth and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 1.5-2 hours, until the pork is tender and flavors are well combined.

  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro.

  6. Serve the Asado de Puerco hot with lime wedges on the side. It can be enjoyed with tortillas or rice, if desired.
