This fresh and fragrant rosemary bread is a great companion for soups and can also be used for dipping or as a base for an open-faced turkey sandwich.
How To Make Simple Rosemary-Sage Bread
Ingredients
- 3 cups bread flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 cup water, warm
- 2 tbsp rosemary, fresh, finely chopped and divided
- 2 tbsp sage, fresh, finely chopped, and divided
- 3 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- cooking spray
Instructions
-
In a bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in warm water. Ensure that the warm water measures no more than 130 degrees Fahrenheit to avoid “killing” the yeast.
-
Cover and set aside. Allow the yeast to bloom for roughly 15 minutes at room temperature.
-
In a large bowl, sift together bread flour, and salt. Make a well at the center, then pour in your bloomed yeast mixture.
-
Add 1½ tablespoons of your herbs, then fold until a dough is formed.
-
Dust your working area with flour, then knead the dough for roughly 10 to 12 minutes until smooth and elastic.
-
Grease a large bowl with cooking spray. Place the kneaded dough in it, cover, and set aside in a warm area. Allow the dough to rise for at least 1 hour, no more than 3 hours.
-
While waiting, grease a Dutch oven and its lid with cooking spray then preheat your oven to 450 degrees F.
-
Dust your working area once more with flour. Punch the dough down once risen, and shape this as desired.
-
Cover once more with a towel and allow them to rise for an additional 45 minutes to 1 hour.
-
Sprinkle with the remaining herbs on top of your dough then cover with the greased lid.
-
Bake the dough for 30 minutes. It should appear to be pale brown after that.
-
Remove the lid and continue baking for roughly 15 minutes or until golden brown and crusty.
-
Once fully baked, set aside at room temperature while still in the Dutch oven until completely cool. Portion accordingly and serve!
