A classic and comforting dessert made with leftover bread and topped with a rich and boozy whiskey sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of cubed bread, preferably day-old
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp of cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup of raisins (optional)
  • For the whiskey sauce:
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp of butter
  • 2 tbsp of whiskey

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.

  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  3. Add the cubed bread and raisins (if using) to the mixing bowl and stir until bread is coated in the egg mixture.

  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes, until golden brown and set.

  5. In a small saucepan, heat the cream and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

  6. Once the sugar has dissolved, add the butter and whiskey and stir until smooth.

  7. Serve the bread pudding warm with the whiskey sauce drizzled on top.
