  • 1 head of cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup of chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (optional)


  1. In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the bacon grease in the skillet.

  2. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet and stir to combine with the onion and garlic. Cook for 5 minutes, until the cabbage begins to soften.

  4. Pour in the chicken broth and add the sugar, salt, black pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine.

  5. Reduce the heat to low and cover the skillet. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender.

  6. Remove the lid from the skillet and increase the heat to medium-high. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage starts to brown and crisp up.

  7. Sprinkle the cooked bacon over the top of the cabbage. Serve hot.
