Grandma’s Apple Bean Soup Recipe

This unique apple bean soup recipe has a sweet flavor from the honey and apples but is quite savory from the ham, bacon and onions. It’s a fantastic combination just the way Grandma made it.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp canola oil
  • 3 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp ground mustard
  • 3 cans navy beans, large
  • 1/2 lb bacon, chopped
  • 1/2 lb ham, cubed
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 can tomato juice, large
  • 2 Granny Smith apples, cut in rings

Instructions

  1. Mix oil, honey, ground mustard with beans. Add to a slow cooker.

  2. Gently stir in the bacon pieces, ham and onion.

  3. Add the can of tomato juice. Layer apple rings over the top of everything.

  4. Cook on low for 8 hours or on high for 6 hours.

  5. Serve with crusty bread.
