How To Make Smoking Whole Chicken

With only 4 ingredients required, this smoking whole chicken amps up the simply seasoned meat through a pellet smoker for the perfect holiday centerpiece.

Ingredients

  • 6lbsWhole Chicken,refrigerated or thawed from frozen
  • 3tbspground salt,coarse
  • 3tbspblack pepper,coarse
  • butter nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the pellet smoker to 225 degrees F.

  2. Lay out the chicken on a clean, flat surface and spray the entire chicken, top to bottom, front to back, with the cooking spray.

  3. Sprinkle the salt and pepper over the entirety of the chicken.

  4. Place the chicken in the middle of the smoker and let it smoke for 1 hour.

  5. Increase the temperature of the smoker to 300 degrees F and cook for another 1½ hours or until the internal temperature in the breast reaches 165 degrees F and the thigh at 175 degrees F.

  6. Remove from the smoker. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

  • If you have a smaller or larger chicken, you’ll simply want to monitor the internal temperature as the size will definitely change the amount of time the chicken will cook.
  • You can easily add more spices or your own homemade rub, if desired. Just be careful to not dry out your chicken.
