Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean beef, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons liquid smoke
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and salt. Mix well.

  2. Place the beef slices in a zip-top bag and pour the marinade over them. Seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.

  3. Preheat your smoker to 180°F (82°C). If using a grill, set it up for indirect heat and place a drip pan underneath.

  4. Remove the beef slices from the marinade and pat them dry with paper towels. Discard the marinade.

  5. Place the beef slices directly on the smoker grates or on a wire rack set over the grill grates.

  6. Smoke the beef jerky for 4 hours, or until it reaches your desired level of chewiness. Flip the slices halfway through the cooking time.

  7. Once smoked, remove the beef jerky from the smoker or grill and let it cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
