  • 6cupsred cabbage,chopped
  • 1apple,peeled and sliced
  • ½onion,slivered
  • ¼cupcider vinegar
  • 3tbspwhite sugar
  • cupwater,plus more as needed
  • tspcloves
  • salt and pepper,to taste


  1. Combine the red cabbage, apple, onion, cider vinegar, white sugar, water, and cloves in a large saucepan.

  2. Bring them to a boil, then reduce the heat to a low simmer. Cover.

  3. Cook covered for 90 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add more water, if needed.

  4. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

  5. Serve warm, and enjoy!
