How To Make Homemade Toffee Apples

Delicious caramel-covered apples with a crunchy toffee coating.

Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 apples
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Wooden skewers

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the apples. Remove the stems and insert wooden skewers into the top of each apple.

  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, water, corn syrup, and lemon juice. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar has dissolved.

  3. Continue to cook the mixture, without stirring, until it reaches 300°F on a candy thermometer, also known as the hard crack stage.

  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. Dip each apple into the hot toffee mixture, tilting the saucepan to fully coat the apple. Allow any excess toffee to drip off.

  6. Place the toffee-coated apples on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and allow them to cool and harden completely.

  7. Serve the homemade toffee apples immediately or store them in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
