How To Make Watergate Cake

A moist and sweet cake with a distinct pistachio flavor, this watergate cake is a vintage recipe. Now you can prepare this cake for special occasions!




  • 18.25ozwhite cake mix
  • 3eggs
  • ¾cupvegetable oil
  • 1cuplemon-lime
  • 3ozinstant pistachio pudding mix
  • ¾cupflaked coconut
  • ¾cuppecans,chopped
  • 1.3ozwhipped topping mix,envelopes
  • cupsmilk

For Pistachio Frosting:

  • 3ozinstant pistachio pudding mix
  • ¾cupwalnuts,chopped
  • ¾cupflaked coconut


  1. Mix cake mix, oil, eggs, soda drink, and 1 package pudding well, about 5 minutes. Fold in coconut and nuts. Pour into greased and floured 9×13-inch pan.

  2. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes. Cool.

  3. Combine dream whip, milk, and 1 package pudding for the pistachio frosting.

  4. Beat until thick. Spread over cake. Sprinkle nuts and coconut on top.
