
How To Make Best Date Squares Ever
Layered with an oatmeal base and honey dates in citrus juice, these date squares are a classic Canadian dessert that’s baked into sweet, golden bars.

Ingredients
- 4cupschopped pitted honey dates
- ¾cuporange juice
- ½tsplemon juice
- 2cupswhole wheat flour
- 2cupsquick cooking oats
- ¾cupbrown sugar
- ½tspbaking powder
- ½tspbaking soda
- ½tspsalt
- 1½cupsunsalted butter,melted and cooled

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease a 9×11-inch baking pan and line with parchment paper.

Heat dates, orange juice, and lemon juice in a large saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring often for about 6 minutes until the dates are soft.

Stir whole-wheat flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a large bowl. Stir in melted butter. Press half of the oat mixture evenly into the prepared pan.

Spread date mixture evenly over oat mixture; sprinkle remaining oat mixture evenly over date mixture and press down lightly.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes until golden.

Allow to cool in the pan to room temperature for about 30 minutes. Refrigerate for about 1 hour until chilled before cutting into squares.
