How To Make Gramma’s Date Squares

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups pitted dates, chopped
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.

In a small saucepan, combine the chopped dates, water, and granulated sugar. Cook over medium heat until the dates are soft and the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the melted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread the cooled date mixture evenly over the crust. Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over the dates, pressing lightly.

Bake for 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
