  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 225°F (110°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a clean and dry mixing bowl, beat the egg whites on medium speed until soft peaks form.

  3. Gradually add the sugar, cream of tartar, and vanilla extract while continuing to beat on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form.

  4. Spoon or pipe the meringue mixture onto the prepared baking sheet in desired shapes.

  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 90 minutes, or until the meringues are crisp and dry to the touch. Rotate the baking sheet halfway through baking.

  6. Turn off the oven and leave the meringues inside for an additional 30 minutes to cool and dry completely.

  7. Serve the meringues as is or use them as a topping for desserts like lemon meringue pie or strawberry shortcake.
