How To Make African Yam Porridge

A hearty and nutritious Nigerian dish made with yam and spices.

Ingredients

  • 1 large yam, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 can of tomatoes, drained
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups of water
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.

  2. Add onion and garlic, sauté until fragrant.

  3. Add yam, tomatoes, spices, and water.

  4. Bring to a boil then reduce heat, cover and simmer until yam is tender.

  5. Salt to taste and serve hot.
