A warm, comforting bread pudding made with crusty French bread, vanilla cream, and a bourbon sauce.

Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 1 hour
Total: 1 hour 20 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of French bread, cubed
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup of raisins (optional)
  • bourbon sauce:
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup of bourbon
  • 1/4 tsp of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together heavy cream, milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until thoroughly combined.

  3. Add the cubed French bread to the mixture and let it soak for about 20 minutes. Optional: Add raisins to the mixture.

  4. Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish and pour the bread mixture into the dish.

  5. Bake for 1 hour, or until the pudding is set and golden brown.
