A classic dessert made with fresh strawberries, sweetened whipped cream, and a tender shortcake biscuit.

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream, divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 3 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, 3 tablespoons sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Add 1 cup of heavy cream and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead a few times until it comes together.

  5. Pat the dough into a circle about 1/2 inch thick and cut into four equal pieces.

  6. Place the shortcakes on a baking sheet and brush the tops with the remaining 1/2 cup of heavy cream.

  7. Sprinkle with sugar and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

  8. While the shortcakes are baking, macerate the sliced strawberries with 3 tablespoons of sugar.

  9. To assemble, split the warm shortcakes in half and top each with sweetened whipped cream and macerated strawberries.

  10. Serve immediately.
