How To Make Crispy Roast Duck

  • 1 whole duck (about 4-5 pounds)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil


  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Rinse the duck under cold water and pat it dry with paper towels.

  3. In a small bowl, combine the salt, black pepper, and five-spice powder. Rub the mixture all over the duck, including the cavity.

  4. Place the duck on a wire rack set inside a roasting pan, breast side up.

  5. Roast the duck in the preheated oven for 1 hour, then increase the temperature to 425°F (220°C).

  6. In a small saucepan, heat the honey, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, and vegetable oil over medium heat until well combined.

  7. After the duck has roasted for 1 hour, brush the honey mixture all over the duck, making sure to coat it evenly.

  8. Continue roasting the duck for another 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the skin is crispy and golden brown.

  9. Remove the duck from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.

  10. Serve the crispy roast duck with your favorite side dishes.
