How To Make Roast Duck Breasts with Maple Syrup Vinaigrette

  • 4 duck breasts
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil


  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Score the skin of the duck breasts in a crisscross pattern. Season with salt and pepper.

  3. Heat olive oil in an ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Add the duck breasts, skin side down, and cook for about 5 minutes or until the skin is crispy and golden brown.

  4. Turn the duck breasts over and transfer the skillet to the preheated oven. Roast for about 10-15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C) for medium-rare or 160°F (71°C) for medium.

  5. While the duck breasts are roasting, prepare the maple syrup vinaigrette. In a small bowl, whisk together maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper.

  6. Remove the roasted duck breasts from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes. Slice the duck breasts diagonally.

  7. Drizzle the maple syrup vinaigrette over the sliced duck breasts. Serve hot and enjoy!
