  • 1 lb asparagus, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices of bread, toasted
  • Parmesan cheese, grated (for garnish)


  1. Steam the asparagus until tender. Drain and set aside.

  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux.

  3. Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture thickens. Season with salt and pepper.

  4. Add the steamed asparagus to the sauce and stir until well-coated.

  5. Spoon the creamed asparagus mixture onto the toasted bread slices.

  6. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese.

  7. Serve hot.
