How To Make Chef John’s Steak Pizzaiola Recipe

Ingredients
- 4 boneless strip steaks (about 1 inch thick)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp dried red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
Instructions

Season the steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over high heat.

Add the steaks to the skillet and cook for 4 minutes per side for medium-rare.

Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet, add onion and garlic. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Return the steaks to the skillet and cook for 2 more minutes.

Remove from heat and sprinkle with fresh basil.

Let the steaks rest for a few minutes before serving.
