Ingredients

  • 4 boneless strip steaks (about 1 inch thick)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dried red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped

Instructions

  1. Season the steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.

  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over high heat.

  3. Add the steaks to the skillet and cook for 4 minutes per side for medium-rare.

  4. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside.

  5. In the same skillet, add onion and garlic. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  6. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 10 minutes.

  7. Return the steaks to the skillet and cook for 2 more minutes.

  8. Remove from heat and sprinkle with fresh basil.

  9. Let the steaks rest for a few minutes before serving.
