Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 beef steak slices (about 1/4 inch thick)
- 4 slices bacon
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 4 dill pickle spears
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup red wine
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Instructions
-
Lay a beef slice flat and season with salt and pepper. Spread a thin layer of mustard on one side.
-
Place a slice of bacon, onion slices, and a pickle spear on top of the mustard.
-
Roll the beef tightly, tucking in the sides as you go. Secure with toothpicks.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the beef rolls on all sides. Remove from skillet and set aside.
-
Deglaze the skillet with red wine, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Stir in beef broth and bring to a simmer.
-
Return the beef rolls to the skillet, cover, and simmer on low heat for 2 hours.
-
Remove the beef rolls from the skillet. Whisk flour into the cooking liquid to thicken into a gravy.
-
Serve the beef rouladen with the gravy spooned over the top.
