Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 3 hours
Total: 3 hours and 20 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds prime rib roast
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried rosemary
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 2 teaspoons paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).

  2. Season the prime rib roast with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, rosemary, thyme, and paprika. Make sure to evenly coat all sides of the roast.

  3. Place the seasoned roast on a rack in a roasting pan, bone-side down.

  4. Roast the prime rib in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.

  5. Reduce the oven temperature to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) and continue roasting for about 15-20 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 120 degrees F (49 degrees C) for medium-rare.

  6. Remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing. This will allow the juices to redistribute and ensure a juicy and tender prime rib.

  7. Slice the prime rib into thick slices and serve.
