How To Make Chef John’s Cheater Demi-Glace Recipe

Ingredients
- 2 cups of beef broth
- 1 cup of red wine
- 1 shallot, finely diced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 sprig of fresh thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the shallot and garlic, and cook until softened.

Pour in the red wine and cook until it has reduced by half.

Add the beef broth, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes, uncovered.

Remove the thyme sprig and bay leaf. Use a blender or immersion blender to puree the sauce until smooth.

Return the sauce to the saucepan and simmer for another 5-10 minutes, or until it has thickened slightly.

Season with additional salt and pepper if needed. Serve hot over your favorite meats or vegetables.
