Ingredients

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute, until mixture is smooth.

  3. Gradually whisk in the milk and continue cooking, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a simmer. Remove from heat and stir in the cheese until melted and smooth.

  4. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until well coated. Season with salt and pepper. Serve hot.
