How To Make Ham Hock and Barley Soup Recipe
A hearty soup with tender ham hock and nutritious barley, perfect for colder weather!
Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 ham hock
- 1 cup barley
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, chopped
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 6 cups chicken broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions

In a large pot, add the ham hock, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, bay leaf, chicken broth, salt, and pepper.

Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer.

Simmer for 2.5 to 3 hours.

Remove the ham hock from the pot and shred the meat. Discard the bone and fat.

Add the barley to the pot and simmer for another 30-40 minutes or until tender.

Add the shredded ham hock back to the pot.

Adjust seasoning to taste. Serve hot.
