Ingredients

  • 4 ham hocks
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. In a large Dutch oven or heavy pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

  3. Sear ham hocks until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes.

  4. Remove ham hocks from pot and add onion and garlic. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.

  5. Add chicken broth, red wine, bay leaves, thyme, black pepper, and salt. Stir to combine.

  6. Return ham hocks to pot and bring to a boil.

  7. Cover pot and transfer to oven. Bake for 3 hours or until meat is tender and falling off the bone.

  8. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
