Ingredients
- 2 cups unsalted butter
- 1½ cups granulated sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4½ cups unbleached flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 3 tbsp peppermint candy
- ½ tsp red food coloring
Instructions
- Cream together the butter and sugar then add the egg yolks and vanilla. Mix well.
- Sift flour and salt together and beat into the butter mixture until well mixed.
- When ready, divide the dough in half then add the red food coloring into one of the half.
- Using about a tablespoon of dough, roll a 4-inch strip of each color
- Place the two colored rolls side by side and press lightly together.
- Gently twist like a rope and place on an ungreased cookie sheet 1-inch apart.
- Curve the top like a candy cane, then sprinkle crushed peppermint candies on top.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F for about 15 minutes. Do not brown.
- Serve once cool!
