How To Make Israeli Date Cookies Recipe

A traditional Middle Eastern treat, these cookies are filled with dates and topped with sesame seeds.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup chopped pitted dates
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and cinnamon.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together oil, honey, and egg.

  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, stirring until well combined.

  5. Fold in chopped dates.

  6. Take tablespoon-sized portions of dough and shape into slightly flattened balls. Roll each ball in sesame seeds to coat.

  7. Place balls on prepared baking sheet, leaving a few inches of space between each cookie.

  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until edges are golden brown.

  9. Allow to cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire rack to cool completely.
