How To Make Indian Tofu Biryani Recipe
This is a flavorful rice dish made with long grain basmati rice, tofu, and aromatic spices.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups long grain basmati rice, rinsed and drained
- 14 oz extra firm tofu, cut into cubes
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1-inch piece of ginger, grated
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 3 green cardamom pods
- 3 cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp garam masala powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 4 cups water
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro leaves, chopped for garnish
Instructions

Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds, green cardamom pods, cloves, cinnamon stick, and bay leaf. Saute until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

Add onions and saute until they turn translucent. Add ginger and garlic and saute for another minute.

Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften, about 2-3 minutes.

Add coriander powder, garam masala, and red chili powder. Saute for another minute.

Add yogurt, cubed tofu, and salt. Stir until everything is well combined.

Add rice and water. Stir well and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover and let cook until the rice is tender, and the liquid has been absorbed, about 20-25 minutes.

Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve hot.
