How To Make Kermit’s Gumbo Recipe
A classic creole dish made with shrimp, sausage, and okra in a spicy tomato-based sauce.

Ingredients
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 lb andouille sausage, sliced
- 1 lb medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 cups sliced okra
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Cooked rice, for serving
- Chopped green onions, for garnish
Instructions

In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the flour and stir constantly until the roux is a dark reddish-brown color.

Add the onions, bell pepper, celery, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.

Add the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, paprika, oregano, thyme, and cayenne pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.

Add the sliced andouille sausage and cook for another 10 minutes.

Add the shrimp and okra and cook until the shrimp are pink and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve the gumbo over cooked rice and garnish with chopped green onions.
