Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

  • 4 steak cuts (such as ribeye or sirloin)
  • 4 large shallots, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  1. Season the steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.

  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the steaks. Cook for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or adjust cooking time according to desired doneness. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside to rest.

  3. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced shallots and cook until softened and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. Increase the heat to medium-high and pour in the red wine. Stir in the brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and reduced by half.

  5. Return the steaks to the skillet and coat them with the sticky red wine shallots. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, turning the steaks to ensure they are thoroughly coated in the sauce.

  6. Remove from heat and let the steaks rest for a few minutes before serving. Serve the steaks topped with the sticky red wine shallots.
