  • 4salmon fillets,wild, skin off or on
  • salt,to season
  • pepper,to season
  • ½tsppaprika,mild, sweet or smokey
  • 2tbspbutter
  • 4garlic cloves,finely chopped or minced
  • 4tbsphoney
  • 1tbspwater
  • 2tspsoy sauce
  • 1tbsplemon juice,fresh squeezed, plus extra for serving
  • lemon wedges,for serving


  1. Arrange oven shelf to the middle of your oven. Preheat oven to broil or grill settings on medium heat.

  2. Season salmon with salt, pepper, and paprika. Set aside.

  3. Heat the butter in a skillet or pan over medium-high heat until melted. Add the garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant.

  4. Pour in the honey, water, and soy sauce. Let the flavours to heat through and combine. Add in the lemon juice, then stir well to combine all of the flavours together.

  5. Add the salmon steaks to the sauce in the pan. Cook each fillet for 3 to 4 minutes or until golden, while basting the tops with the pan juices. Season with salt and pepper to taste if desired.

  6. Drizzle with the sauce and a squeeze of lemon juice. Serve with steamed vegetables, over rice, or with a salad.

Recipe Notes


If cooking salmon fillets with skin, cook skin-side down first. Also, after cooking the salmon fillets, you can add the lemon wedges around the salmon for a stronger lemon taste. Baste salmon one more time, then transfer the pan to your oven to broil or grill for 5 to 6 minutes more, or until the tops of the salmon are nicely charred, and the salmon is cooked to your liking.
